LARGE ALBUMEN OF CAPT. W.H. MICKLE AND FRIENDS AT LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN.
LARGE ALBUMEN OF CAPT. W.H. MICKLE AND FRIENDS AT LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN. Albumen photograph, 8.5 x 7" mounted on larger board, taken at Point Lookout, Tennessee by J.B. Linn. Identified from a tintype retained by the family and taken on the same day. From left to right the officers are: Captain Gary commanding Battery C., 1st Ohio Light Artillery (pointing), Lt. Mickle (holding field glasses), Captain Brown, 134th NY, Mr. Stowall, "N.Y. Clerk," and Lt. Ahreets, 134th NY. Mickle wrote about the "ramble up and over Old Lookout" in a letter to his wife and included a marvelous, if not confusing "key to the picture" mentioning the four friends that accompanied him to the summit. He tells her to "take it to some good artist" and have a dozen photographs of it made for friends and relatives, but implores her to be careful and not let anyone handle it because "case is poor and might break." Minor water spot in the sky area, light stains on mount. PLEASE NOTE: THIS LOT WILL BE SOLD ON EBAY LIVE AUCTIONS BETWEEN 4:00-5:00pm EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME ON MAY 10, 2002.
