LARGE ABRAHAM LINCOLN OIL ON CANVAS PAINTING BY HOWARD ELMER HOUSE - FRAMED - Howard Elmer House - 1877-1969 - A painter of landscapes and portraits, Howard Elmer House lived in Portland, Oregon. He was a pupil at the Chicago Art Institute, and The Chicago Academy of Fine Art. He arrived in Portland in the 1930's, and became a member of the Oregon Society of Artists and the American Artists Professional League.
In some of his early landscapes, he appears to have been influenced by California Plein-Air artists. His portrait paintings included prominent politicians such as President John F. Kennedy, one of which hung in the Kennedy Library, and Lyndon B Johnson. A large portrait of Benjamin Franklin was believed to be commissioned for the Portland based Benjamin Franklin Savings and Loan. Portraits of entertainers such as Liberace were also produced, as well as privately commissioned works.
We're told this Painting of Abraham Lincoln hung in a Prominent Hotel in Downtown Portland, which no longer exists.
