LANGSTON HUGHES: (1902 - 1967) Black American writer and poet who gained recognition with his poem "The Negro Speaks of Rivers". A nice lot of three items, including an A.L.S. on his personal letterhead "Langston" 1p. 4to., New York, July 21, 1944, to Prentiss, in part: "...I'm just back from St. Louis, Chicago, Detroit as Narrator of the American Negro Music Festivals...". Along with a small handmade Christmas card that bears the typed inscription "This here is a lean year but, anyhow, Christmas Cheer!" and boldly signed "Show biz has got me! Langston" and a photocopy of two review of his play "Prodigal Son" from 1965, inscribed and signed in bright green ink "Prentiss, you must see my show when you come to town. All dancing and singing you kids I think you'd like it. I'm just back from Paris. Langston". Three items, very good. $700-900
