LANDMARK BOOK. FILSON'S HISTORY OF KENTUCKY.
LANDMARK BOOK. FILSON'S HISTORY OF KENTUCKY. Filson, John. "Histoire de Kentucke, Nouvelle Colonie, a L'Ouest de Virginie." M. Perraud, Paris. 1785. Small 8vo, 234pp, with folding map. Original, brown marbeled paper boards, with gilt stamped leather backstrip. This is the first French edition of the landmark book on Kentucky and first published biography of Daniel Boone. First published in 1784 by James Adams in Wilmington, Delaware, the French edition appeared relatively shortly thereafter. An exceptional Kentucky rarity, made more so by the presence of the map. The last record of a sale for this book was $1700 in 1999. Complete, though Howes calls for a plate, this volume does not seem to have ever had one. Generally fine, save for a .5" chunk missing from the top edge of pg 111 (the piece in present, however). PLEASE NOTE: THIS LOT WILL BE SOLD ON EBAY LIVE AUCTIONS BETWEEN 6:00-7:00pm EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME ON MAY 10, 2002. REGISTER NOW TO BID LIVE ONLINE THE DAY OF THE SALE! (EST 1500-2000)
