Starling [http://www.bridgemanart.com/image/Brooke-William-Henry-1772-1860-after/Sale-of-Estates-Pictures-and-Slaves-in-the-Rotunda-New-Orleans-engraved-by-J-M-Starling-1842-engrav/e3199cc236a442fdbf6d4e1d99955dc0?key=prfx:noc&filter=CBPOIHV&thumb=x150&num=15&page=14]. An illustration of a three-way auction inside a beautiful dome ballroom at St. Louis Hotel. The black and white illustration shows a room full a people. One auctioneer at the left is selling pictures, the second auctioneer at the right is selling properties/deeds, and the last auctioneer in the center is auctioning off slaves, including children. At the front are barrels, packages, and clay pots. People are sitting around observing, children are playing, and a dog is lying on the floor. The magnificent Rotunda dome was sixty-five feet in diameter and eight-eight feet in height. At some point the upper portions were used as a dining room. By 1912 the hotel was in ruins due to hurricanes and other weather related events. Minor yellowing along the edges, but condition is very good.
