LÁSZLÓ MOHOLY-NAGY (American, b. Hungary, 1895-1946) UNTITLED FOTOGRAMM inscribed "Best Greetings, Sibyl and László Moholy-Nagy" in ink on verso unique gelatin silver print photogram 9 1/2 x 7 3/16 in. (23.4 x 18.3 cm) circa 1930 PROVENANCE Myron Kozman (one of the first five graduates from the New Bauhaus School, 1941) Ubu Gallery, NEW YORK Private Collection, NEW YORK Through experimentation with technology and the manipulation of light, Moholy-Nagy sought a new vision of the world, freed from tradition. This naturally led him to photography and photograms in 1922. Each photogram is unique. This one was made with a hand and a round object. It is not known exactly when this photogram was made, but the dedication on the back indicates that it was probably not given as a greeting earlier than 1934, the year he married Sibyl Pietzsch.
