<B>L. Frank Baum. </B></I><B><I>Father Goose - His Book</B></I></B></I><B>.</B></I> Chicago: Geo. M. Hill Co. Publishers, [1899]. <BR>First edition. Quarto. More than one hundred un-numbered pages, each with verse and accompanying full-page illustration by W.W. Denslow.<BR><BR>Gray pictorial paper boards with black cloth spine. Inscription <I>"</B></I>from Uncle Henry<I>" </B></I>on flyleaf. Wear to board edges and corners. Interior pages show a few faint smudges and page creases, overall very good condition. Baum and Denslow were friends who decided to collaborate on a book, and agreed to self publish this much-loved children's book of verse. However, as funds were tight, the book was hand-lettered rather than typeset to save money. Filled with inside jokes shared by the author and artist, offering a running commentary on their lives, friends, and family. The finished work was a great success, becoming the best-selling children's book of the year.
