For your consideration is a L.C. Smith No. 0 Damascus Steel side by side 12 gauge shotgun. Production of the No. 0 shotgun began in 1894, and it was the lowest grade available until the introduction of the No. 00 in 1898. The 1900 catalog copy said: "A well-made gun, with all improvements to meet the demands of sportsmen for a reliable gun at a low price. Damascus barrels, choke-bored; English walnut stock; half pistol grip; checkered and well finished". "L.C. Smith" is stamped on the lock plates. Two twist steel barrels were available when it was first offered, but they were changed to Damascus Steel in 1899. This stagecoach shotgun utilizes two side by side Damascus Steel barrels chambered in 12 gauge. The shotgun utilizes fine English walnut as the stock. The pistol grip stock and standard foregrip show a fine hand checkered pattern. The fine Damascus barrels measure 18 ¼” in length. The receiver is stamped with the patent dates and while slightly worn they can be partially read as “Pat’d Mar. …July 13. 86. Oct. 5. 88.” The firearm shows good condition for its over 100 year old age. Due to the Damascus Steel Barrels the earliest manufacture date for this shotgun is 1899. Serial Number: 091650. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
