L.C. Kersey Red Bluff California Back-Lock, Superposed Percussion Sporting Rifle
Manufactured by L.C. Kersey in Red Bluff, California circa 1860s. The top of the barrel is marked "L.C. KERSEY RED BLUFF, CAL CAST STEEL". The barrels are brown while the remaining metal surfaces are casehardened. Globe front sight; the rear sight has been removed and dovetail unfilled. The rifle has wooden ramrods with brass tips, decorative trigger guard, double set triggers and straight grip stock with small round patch box and long tanged crescent buttplate.
BBL: 32 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 38
Finish: brown/casehardened
Grips:
Serial Number: NSN
Condition: Excellent. The barrels retain most of the original brown finish with some minor pocks and dings. The hammers, locks, trigger guard, barrel tang and buttplate retain about 75% of the original vivid case colors with the remaining areas a smooth gray or dark patina. The wood, including the ramrods, is excellent with almost all of the original varnish remaining and only a few minor dings. The barrel tang has a screw missing, a small screw added and a screw hole filled. The right hammer does not hold the cock position, the left side functions properly. The barrel marking is crisp and clear. A very nice over/under percussion sporting rifle.
