Scattered bagmarks in the fields, one on the outstretched arm inside the elbow, and several others, small nicks but nothing out of the ordinary, near the lower left side of the gown Liberty is wearing.

Most '24-D double eagles were probably held in the United States and liquefied in the Treasury's furnaces in the mid-1930s. However, at least a couple thousand did get exported. Today, the 1924-D is scarce, yet reasonably affordable. Offerings are frequent, due to a combination of more pieces being available from European imports and the curious situation, ubiquitous throughout numismatics, of buyers taking home a piece from an auction, then reoffering is soon thereafter. Sometimes a rare double eagle will do a fair bit of roaming around until it lands in an enduring home.
