[L#5230] 1820 Sq 2 $5 PCGS MS64
This exceptional piece displays highly lustrous gem fields with uniform frosty texture and minimal surface marks. Under close inspection, the obverse devices contrast somewhat to the fields in that the texture of the central motif is a little more coarsely granular, as made. Deep antique yellow gold can be seen, along with wide areas of copper-orange toning. This example is most notably above average in its beauty and striking appearance, the surfaces being free of corrosion or tarnish spots. The coin does not quite come boldly struck but does have full star centers on stars 1 through 12, while star 13 was punched into the die slightly more shallowly resulting in some softness of the center. The central devices are sharp enough on both sides, with Miss Liberty's hair curls well-formed and mostly crisp details throughout the eagle's feathers, the stripes of the shield, the legends and arrow points. Rare in this grade; only a few other Mint States are known. (PCGS holder 90044685.)
