[L#5225] 1813 $5 PCGS MS62
This is the first year of issue for the Capped Head design type, modified from the Capped Bust type introduced by John Reich in 1807. The reverse was modified slightly with a larger neck and head, and the entire device is higher in the field. Because Reich remained on the mint staff until the end of 1813, his "signature" 13th star point (with a small nick) can be found on all 1813-dated half eagles. This is a lustrous and nicely struck Gem with a warm orange-gold hue overall. Both dies were sharp when this half eagle was struck, with perhaps only a modicum of softness on a few hair curls and eagle feathers.
