Pleasingly bright and lustrous, this specimen displays warmly colored orange-gold hues on both sides. As is typical, the luster is heavy with "frost" and generous portions of cartwheel "spin" effect created by the way the metal flow lines cascade outward from the centers. The strike is well-executed on the stars, hair curls, shoulder clasp and drapery lines. Mintage this year comprised of both overdates (1808/7) and normal dates using several die combinations, with total production rising to 55,578 pieces, an average figure for the era. However, many were exported soon after minting, which caused grief to the mint establishment who worried that their efforts were wasted in striking these precious metal coins.
