[L#4458] 1894 $1 PCGS MS62
Displaying a uniform satiny brilliance on each side, this 1894 developed glorious deep amber gold and reddish brown toning in its passage through the years. What's more, it is very well-struck on the hair and throughout the eagle; though not 100% crisp (a couple of the hair curls are fused above the ear), it is certainly better than most. With only 110,000 minted, this coin is rare in all grades, and extremely scarce in all Mint State grades. It has a couple of tiny rim and surface marks but overall a sharp strike with good luster. According to Wayne Miller, a bag surfaced in Great Falls, Montana and these were widely dispersed in the early 1960s. The consignor purchased the coin in 1962 from a coin shop in Houston, Texas.
