Excellent detail from a strong strike, the surfaces show sharp silver color underneath thin layers of light to medium-weight golden toning from the issue card. A resplendent Lynchburg half dollar. The portrait is that of Carter Glass, appointed Secretary of the Treasury under Woodrow Wilson to succeed former Secretary William G. McAdoo. Born to a newspaper family in Lynchburg, Virginia, Carter Glass (1858-1946) took an early and active interest in politics. He was still alive at the time this commemorative half dollar was struck. For his long support of the Federal Reserve, America's cartellized banking system, Glass became popularly known at the time as the "Father of the Federal Reserve."
