A cosmic dose of heavenly cartwheel luster enlivens the broad expanse of luster in the fields and on top of the devices. The fields are essentially immaculate with only a couple of small tic marks in front of the face, while the strike is bold enough to warrant special mention. Note the detail in Captain Cook's wig and his sharp coat lapels, areas that are often of concern. The fellow posing on the back is a Generic Hawaiian High Chief and not Kamehameha, or Kalakaua, or Duke Kahanamoku or Darth Vader as some have proposed. (Kamehameha the First's larger than life statue can be found in front of the old Legislative building in downtown Honolulu, and this may be the source of the misconception.) These were released in Hawaii. Many went to non collectors. Many of the non collectors mishandled their purchases or, in times of stringency, actually spent them, accounting for the low population of true Gem Mint State 65 Hawaiian commemorative halves nowadays.
