A satiny golden gray to steel blue example with a vivid display of rich iridescence on both sides from the free-flowing luster. Struck with exactitude by the dies, most of the hair curls are present, as is Liberty's lower drapery, with an impressive eagle so unlike the 1806-07 weak eagles that we draw your attention to the stark difference is quality. There is a short tone streak in the field by Liberty's face and a small mark below the first S in STATES, all factored into the grade, of course, making it near enough to Gem quality to qualify as a Premium Quality specimen.

Students of history have heard about the trials and tribulations of the early days at the Philadelphia Mint. Congress nearly voted to close the facility in 1801, and only renewed the law authorizing its existence every five years through 1828, when its continuance was finally set in concrete.

Holding a quarter dollar of the period in your hand brings to mind a time when Missouri was a foreign land with trappers and Indians dominating the landscape west of the Appalachians; Jefferson had only recently completed the Louisiana Purchase which brought Emperor Napoleon (the seller) much needed gold to fight his endless wars back home. Somehow, through wars and inflation and the ever fickle finger of Fate, this 1805 has been left virtually as it was struck, a gleaming fresh reminder of days of yore. It will not be forgotten by today's perceptive collector.
