[L#3341] 1844 10c PCGS MS63
Decades ago the 1844 date was hoarded by a popular writer from Kansas City named Frank Ross, who then fed specimens from his stockpile into the market at much inflated prices. Ross is credited with bestowing the name "Orphan Annie" on the date, although no one is certain why he chose this name. The result was higher prices for 1844 dimes, and this is certainly reflected in the intense demand for this coin in Mint condition, which is more than 10 times as expensive as surrounding dates, and higher than the price of the rarer 1846.

The coin offered here is graced with original medium-deep shades of "old silver" with plenty of underlying luster and just as much "eye appeal" you could ask for. The PCGS serial #21922158 can be used for tracing its provenance - that is, if it ever trades at auction again in your lifetime!
