[L#3256] 1916-D 5c PCGS MS65
In grades up to and including MS-64, the 1916-D is not among the scarce issues in this series. As a Gem, however, it is rare. As with the majority of survivors, the present coin is a tad softly struck in the center of the obverse and over the bison's shoulder on the reverse, but these are the only two areas concerned. The balance of the features are suitably crisp in detail, and we are even tempted to describe the overall appearance as ideally sharp for the type. Rich frosty nickel-bright luster is more free of toning, with the entire aspect of the color one of bright iridescence. There are no distracting blemishes, although a couple of toned spots are found on the upper hip of the buffalo. One would be hard pressed to locate a more profoundly original Mint State 65 of this conditionally difficult Nickel from the Denver Mint.
