As you can see by the consistency of the grades, this is a remarkable set where the consignor acquired all high-end pieces pretty much matched for good looks (visual appeal), sharp strikes, and spot-free originality. Several are lightly toned, others are glittery bright, with the whole ensemble just that, a harmonious ensemble of Liberty three-cent nickel pieces. The Three Cent Nickel was introduced in 1865, and was useful to commerce during its initial years because silver coins were hoarded, driven from circulation by paper money without specie backing - the classic reaction by the public known as Gresham's Law. Proofs were minted every year, including an 1887 perfect date as well as an 1887/6 overdate. Virtually immaculate examples, such as the present pieces, are of the highest rarity. Lot of 26 coins.
