[L#3057] 1909-S V.D.B. 1c PCGS MS65 Red
A difficult issue to find at the MS65 level (especially with full red luminescence), this example is well-struck through and through with sharp beard on Lincoln, full coat lapel and an especially deep strike on the wheat ears. Even the O in ONE is razor-sharp. The underlying coppery gold luster is free from contact marks or other signs of deterioration.

The entire mintage of 309,000 Indian Cents dated 1909-S, was executed in January. Why no additional cents were coined is unknown, but the Lincoln dies were not ready until June. Like its Philadelphia Mint cousin, 1909-S V.D.B. is usually well-struck. The acquisition of a 1909-S V.D.B. cent usually marks the completion of this series, being the Holy Grail for Lincoln Cent collectors. While a number of other issues are rarer in Mint State, this coveted coin remains the most famous regular-issue entry in terms of the total number available in all grades. For many years it has also been the most widely known Lincoln Cent outside of the numismatic community.
