Semi lustrous to partly proof-finish fields are typical with the later Second Restrike 1856 Flying Eagle cents. Snow, in his work on the Flying Eagle and Indian cents, posits that "these were probably struck in 1860 in quantities close to 1000 pieces. These are commonly thought of as 'regular issues' because of the large production. A well struck example of this popular, and historically significant rarity.

The 1856 Flying Eagle Cent has been famous almost since Day One. Collectors realized early on that these had a very low mintage (current estimates put it at 1,000 to 1,500 pieces). Years ago one ardent fellow cornered a group of 756 pieces! Remember, however, this was during a time when there were fewer collectors than coins. That long-ago hoard was distributed; meanwhile, the collecting fraternity blossomed like a field of springtime flowers.
