[L#1653] 1837 L1C N-4 R2 PCGS MS66 BN
Lustrous bluish steel brown with traces of slightly faded mint red in protected areas, especially on the obverse. The surfaces are satiny and virtually flawless, the satiny luster extending to even the highest points of the design. The only defects are a small spot of darker toning in the field off the chin and a very light diagonal nick close over the inner bun. (Note: The nearly vertical line down from the dentils right of star 8 is a scratch on the slab, not on the coin.) E-MDS. A beautiful cent, very close to gem. EAC grade MS64. Ex Early American Coppers MBS #1, 8/70:65-C. Douglas Smith- Dr. Bob Shalowitz-C. Douglas Smith-Jerry Bobbe-C. Douglas Smith- Herman Halpern, Stack's 3/16/88:479-John Nicholas, Superior 2/2/92:593.
