[L#1058] 1795 9 Leaves $10 AU details, burnished
Coin is housed in NCS (Numismatic Conservation Services) holder #5031942-014 and has various minor problems in addition to having been lightly burnished at one time. There are a series of little pinpoint marks above and around stars 2-5, others in the right obvere field and also affecting some of the rim dentils. The reverse rim seems to have been filed slightly at 9 o'clock, possibly to remove evidence of solder. The eagle holds in its claws a palm branch of nine leaves, the only such variety. Most 1795 eagles feature a 13-leaf palm branch and it is unknown why the mint varied the design. Needless to say, the 1795 "9 Leaves" is as rare as it is famous, a coin of almost legendary eminence in the $10 Eagle series.
