Possibly the dual grades listed above comprise the same coin at this level. Furthermore, there is only 1 Mint State 63 certified and we believe 1 in Mint State 65. Therefore, exceedingly rare! Color is mostly yellow-gold in shade, but flickers of orange tinted iridescence can be found if you look closely. Additionally, the devices were struck with energy and full force by the well-maintained dies imparting all design elements boldly with only marginal weakness. This includes the full complement of sharp stars, most hair curls (only the lovelock is at all weak), and a nicely displayed eagle. If one wanted to quibble, perhaps the lack of detail in the spot where the shield overlaps the wing could be pointed to, but all in all this is a remarkable specimen for 1828. Few ever come on the market. Mintage was 28,029, but upwards of 97% of the mintage was later melted. Breen estimates the number struck from perfect dated dies at 15,739 "late in year."
