Another remarkable specimen which, like the 1924-S in this outstanding grade, is blessed by natural medium gray to russet with sky blue toning. Centers are above-average as well, which is noticeably improving the overall appearance. Even though the United States mints struck millions of silver dollars each year in the 1920s (up to and including 1928), not all that many ever reached circulation. People preferred one-dollar currency bills to the more bulky (but precious metal) dollar coins, and so the silver dollars resided in the Treasury's vaults for the most part. Millions were subsequently melted, although bags and bags of baggy S-mint dollars did surface beginning in the 1950s.
