Attractive russet-brown color at the rims, no doubt from many years in an old Wayte Raymond-style collector album. Choice surfaces. Robert Scot's scaled-down copy of the heraldic eagle from the Great Seal of the United States first appeared on dimes in 1798. Curiously, Scot had transposed the arrows and olive branch (signifying peace) from their correct positions on the Seal to the opposite claws, heraldically, an error of the first magnitude. Fortunately, most collectors and the general public then and now did not notice the difference. The 1805 dime is second most plentiful among the Draped Bust, Heraldic Eagle types, though generally much better made than the usually weak clashed die pieces dated 1807.
