[L#0076] 1833 1C NGC MS66 RB
The obverse is lustrous steel brown and chocolate with underlying faded mint red covering the protected areas and much of the fields. The reverse is lustrous bright mint red mellowing to light steel brown on the highpoints, 90% of the original color remaining. Outstanding luster and eye appeal. The best identifying marks are a faint scuff in the field off the tip of the nose and some darker toning on the leaf under the C in AMERICA. There are three barely visible abrasions on the outside edge of the rim, possibly caused by pins or tacks used to hold this cent in place for a display (which would account for the difference in toning between the obverse and reverse). These tack marks are at stars 4-5, 8-9, and 13, but only the one at stars 4-5 is visible in the slab. EAC grade MS64 and one of the finest known in spite of the minor marks. LDS with a clear double profile from the forehead down to the chin and the reverse rotated 40 degrees CW. Comes with an impressive provenance as well, and the Sheldon pedigree is included on the NGC label.
