Kyung-nim Yun (b. 20th C) Korean/American, O/C
"Bread and Wine with Angel", a finely rendered still life with terracotta jar, foliage, and angel sculpture, oil on canvas, signed lower right. Artist Kyung-nim Yun is also known as Kay Yun.
Every year artist Kyung-nim Yun makes a pilgrimage to Italy to inspire her paintings of landscapes and still lifes. For Yun, painting is not just a visual examination and descriptive translation into form, but ultimately an act of devotion. As such, her paintings are filled with contemplative quietude, yet also reveal her abilities at orchestrating emotional and tonal harmonies.
Kyung-nim Yun enjoys culling wildflowers from these landscapes and arranging them into compositions that emphasize the artless lyricism of nature contrasted against the beauty of cultivated forms, such as teacups, vases, and vessels. Given the brief lifespan of wildflowers, Yun’s floral studies are subtle metaphors for the brevity of life. Exuding the inner peace of visual prayer, Yun’s oeuvre ultimately celebrates nature’s magnificence that, in the artist’s words, “never ceases to amaze me and to inspire me and instills gratitude in me for God’s perfection and beauty."
