Eminent German-American composer (1900–1950) best known for such evergreen stage works as the Threepenny Opera, Mahagonny, and Knickerbocker Holiday. A number of his songs, including ‘Mack the Knife’ and ‘September Song,’ take a place among the most durable standards of the 20th century. AMQS on a light gray 5.25 x 4 sheet. Weill pens five bars of music from ‘My Ship’ from the hit Broadway show Lady in the Dark, inscribing under the quote, “For Murray D. Morrison, with my best wishes, Kurt Weill.” Archivally matted and framed with a portrait of Weill to an overall size of 17.5 x 14.5. Two thin strips of toning through portion of inscription and one bar of quote, otherwise fine condition. In 1941 Weill collaborated with Ira Gershwin (lyrics) and Moss Hart (book) for Lady in the Dark, which starred Gertrude Lawrence, and featured ‘My Ship.’ A crisply-penned quote from one of his most popular songs.
