Featured in this lot is this Kunene Region Namibia, African Hima knife, circa early 1900's. The knife shows a complete design, with a sheath and flap at the end and a wire sharpener. The knife shows a leaf-life blade with a fire hardened handle and is leather wrapped with red ochre dye to the leather wrap. This is a handmade knife and leather sheath have been dyed in natural red ochre paint. This tool was made by the Himba tribe, a tribe of nomadic pastoralists from the Kunene region in northwest Namibia, Africa. The condition of this knife and sheath is good, with no obvious signs of damage; the blade shows some patina consistent with age. The measurements of this knife, in sheath, are 17 3/4" x 3 1/4" x 2" and the blade length is 8 3/4" x 1 3/4".
