Johan Andreas Kuchenreuter Percussion Pistol, NSNV, approx. .50 cal., 8-1/2'' barrel, brown finish, walnut stock. The Kuchenreuter family of gunmakers has been in business in various locations in Bavaria, Germany, since the 1600s and is still in business in the town of Cham, Bavaria, today. Johan Andreas II appears to have been in business from 1758-1808. Condition is good with the barrel extensively inlaid with silver scroll decoration and the name ''Ioh. And. Kuchenreuter''. The Kuchenreuter logo of a horse-mounted knight in gold is inlaid over the breech. Stock is nicely carved in an oakleaf motif. Rear shield escutcheon and front sight are missing. Brass furniture shows minute traces of former gold plating, minor dents and patina remaining. Right side lockplate is unadorned but gracefully executed. Hammer is intact, nipple is collapsed. Left front screw on left side serpentine is broken. Front barrel fitting appears to be missing and the ramrod is a replacement. Trigger is screw adjustable. Stock is intact with one chip at butt cap. The smooth bore is brown patinaed. Est.: $800-$1,200. (Antique)
