Krieghoff 1936 "S" Code Luger Semi-Automatic Pistol

This is a fine representative example of a pre-WWII Krieghoff "S" Code Luger as manufactured for the Luftwaffe, with the early "S" Code marked chamber area indicating manufacture in 1936. It is estimated that approximately 4,000 Lugers total were produced in 1936. The toggle is marked "H/Krieghoff Anchor/K" over "KRIEGHOFF/SUHL" with the word "SUHL" centered under Krieghoff with the "S" inline with the "I" in Krieghoff. The left side of the barrel extension is marked with the Luftwaffe Eagle/2 proof next to the Luftwaffe acceptance proof with the smaller Luftwaffe "Eagle/2" proof on the right side. The underside of the barrel, is marked .881/early "Eagle/2" acceptance proof with no serial number. Military style serial number placement with the full serial number (3438) on the front frame and left side of the barrel extension with the last two digits on the various small parts. This Luger is fitted with late pattern coarse brown grips used by the Krieghoff factory in late 1936 with the smooth back sides with no makers marks. The manufacturer of these grips has never been identified. This Luger is complete with one matching magazine, that has the tin plated magazine body with an aluminum base that is marked "3/3438" over the single, upside down "Eagle/2' Luftwaffe proof.

Stock:
Guage: 9 mm Luger
Finish: blue
Grips: brown plastic checkered

Very fine as professionally restored with 80% of the refurbished blue finish overall with edge and high spot wear with blue loss on the side plate hump, muzzle area and thinning on the grip straps. The grips are very good overall with minor handling makers on the sides, mixed with a couple of flat spots. The serial number has been restamped due to polishing for refinish. As noted this Luger has matching numbers to include the magazine. Mechanically fine. A nice example of scarce early production Luftwaffe contract, Krieghoff pistol.
