He is the son of renowned Inuit artist Ejetsiaq Peter. Kooyoo began carving seriously at the age of 18, although he was 13 when he first tried carving a seal. He prefers to work in black and white marble. He has been educated in the art of Jewelery making and has previously worked with silver, copper, brass and walrus ivory. His favourite subject matter is dancing bears and people in action. Kooyoo is known for his strong, well-executed pieces and challenging subjects with a sense of movement.
