<B> Konstantin Tsiolkovsky Signed Pamphlet. </B></I> 10 pages, 6" x 9.5", entitled: (In Russian) <I>Aeronautics Before XIX Century,</B></I> np, February 4, 1901. Signed and inscribed at the top of the first page as, "<I>To dear Aleksander Petrovich Shaposhnikov from the author, 1901, February 4, Tsiolkovsky.</B></I>" Tsiolskovsky was a Russian physicist and astronautics scientist who pioneered rocket and space travel research. Self-educated and handicapped by deafness from the age of 10, his visionary ideas on the use of rockets for space exploration were published in 1903. In 1911 he developed the basic theory of rocketry and multistage rocket technology. The last lines of the first page of this pamphlet read, "<I>This is a legend about Gusman, who because of his flying apparatus almost fell into soft and pious hands of the Holy Inquisition.</B></I>" The pamphlet is in very fine condition; staples on the left edge have rusted slightly and stained the paper; some tears along left edge near staples.
