James Reid, Catskill, New York, made these unusual looking knuckle-duster, 22 short black powder cartridge revolvers from 1869-1884. About 10,250 of these seven shot revolvers were produced. The design is a solid frame barrel less revolver extended to contain a ring grip for the smallest or fourth finger of the shooters hand. The left side of the frame is marked; “MY FRIEND PATD. DEC 26, 1865” The cylinder is 1 ½ “long. This is one of the most distinctive appearing American revolving black powder cartridge derringers. The frame becomes a brass knuckle for hand fighting. This was important in the early days of firearm history, when guns were customarily single shot were likely to misfire. Excellent seven shot, 22 caliber in working condition, very nice Victorian period original engraving. Very unique and rare derringer for the advanced collector. State: City: Date: ID#45771
