This is a beaded knife sheath that measures 13.75 in. X 5 in. with 12 in. fringe. The leather is of cowhide (as apposed to brain tanned deer, buffalo, or elk) with beads skillfully attached with imitation sinew. The sheath has not been used and likely marketed for rendezvous meets by reenactors and muzzleloading gun club meets. The beads appear to be a French Old Stock style (ref. Crazy Crow Trading Post) to look authentic for the fur trade period in orange, semitransparent green, and dark red. The beadwork is spectacular and well done. The sinew is almost invisible and covered on the inside to hide the finishing of each thread indicating a non-Native American craftsmanship. There appears to be no method of attachment to ones belt which indicates a trade blanket item. The beading style is a lazy stitch method in the geometric style of the Sioux. Excellent layout of the beadwork ready for your long hunter knife.
