This American half stock rifle is equipped with a blade front sight and elevation adjustable rear sight on a heavy barrel. The upper left barrel flat is stamped "KLEPZIG/SAN FRANCISCO." The lock plate is marked "KLEPZIG." The rifle has double set triggers. The half stock features a checkered wrist, a crescent buttplate, two barrel wedges (like Hawken rifle), cheekpiece, iron patch box and a blank silver initial oval on the underside of the buttstock. Noted firearm author Frank Sellers has identified a John Christian Eberhart Klepzig (1817-1878) as a San Francisco gunsmith who specialized in percussion half stocks and derringers from 1852-1878 (see AMERICAN GUNSMITHS, page 172).

Very good plus. The barrel has a smooth brown patina with the remaining metal surfaces having a smooth gray patina. The stock is fine with worn checkering and some scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically fine.
