This is an original exceptionally rare and important early Kiowa Native American Indian war lance or spear collected in Big Springs, Texas. The piece is from circa 1840-1860 and shows an overall good well preserved condition. The piece has a forged long iron spear head with two notches at the base on either side. The lance staff is solid wood showing early red trade clothe along the top with long cut Indian hide fringe with ocher blue dye and brass tacks. The base of the staff shows Indian tanned hide wrapped in yellow trade clothe and Indian hide drop with abalone and brass bead along with long cut blue ocher dyed fringe. Measures overall 54"L with an additional 22"L hide drop and fringe. The spear head is 12"L and 1 5/8"W. The hide drop has been modernly re-attached, but is original.
