This is a ocher mineral painted & beaded drum from the Kiowa Native American Indian tribe. The museum quality piece is from circa 1840-1880 and shows well preserved good condition. The drum shows effigy pictorial painted scenes on both sides with a hide beaded strip across the top edge. The front shows a green and yellow ocher background with Midi Horned figure, seasons or star symbol and two round symbols. The reverse shows a yellow and green ocher background with black wolf or bear figure, black dotted cross, and red ocher round figures above. The beadwork shows glass trade seed beads in chalk white, red, and dark blue on a hide strip. Very rare and desirable original piece. The drum is 14" in diameter and 2 3/8" thick. This has a rich sound when played.
