This is an excellent fully beaded Kiowa Native American Indian traditional cradleboard with handmade doll from the mid-1900’s. The cradleboard (cradle board) / papoose shows a wood frame construction that is sewn with Indian tanned hide and accented by two brass tacked crosses. The back has a tent / tipi canvas backing and the cradleboard covering has an Indian tanned hide which is covered in glass trade seed bead work in a traditional design having six “x” symbols on each side along with various geometric effigy patterns. The beadwork has a medium green background with designs in light-green, corny yellow, red, sky padre blue, semi-transparent medium green, orange and blue/purple. The doll shows a tent / tipi canvas and Indian tanned hide construction with Indian tanned hide clothing having long fringe, glass trade seed beadwork and real human hair. The cradleboard has been wonderfully preserved and shows little to no bead loss. Provenance: From a large Minden, Nevada American Indian collection and the previous collection of Janule Wicz. Measures overall 21.25”L x 5.5”H x 6.75”W.
