Kiowa Beaded Painted High Top Moccasins c. 1930-
This is an excellent set of large men's high top moccasins from the Southern Plains Kiowa Indians dating to circa 1930-1960's. The set shows a hard soles comprised of thick harness saddle leather sewn with sinew to the thick stiff hide tops. The tops and legs are compeletly covered in yellow paint with a geometric beadwork pattern that borders the ankle, drops down the back of the foot and runs up the front of the calf. The beadwork at the front shows a long rectanuglar shape with the central area having a purple painted finish with nickel plated metal concho tacks in two sizes, as well as a beaded fancy edge. The beadwork is done in all glass trade seed beads in colors of medium blue, greasy corn yellow, chalk white, cobalt, red and orange. The set displays beautifully and shows a nice large size. The hide ties along the leg and top are sitll attached. The bases show a nice natural foot worn patina from honest age and use. The set is well preserved with nice paint, no visible damages / cracking / or rips with little to no visible bead loss. Each measures 20.5"H by 11.25"L along the soles by 4.25"W at the sole.
