Kiowa Beaded Dag Knife Sheath & Trade Knife
The lots features a beaded thick hide dag knife sheath attributed to the Kiowa of the Southern Plains Indians accompanied by an old trade knife. The sheath has a thick Indian tanned hide with some stiffness showing integral thick hand cut fringes, mineral pigment dark red and black dye, geometric beadwork in glass trade seed beadwork. The beadwork shows three four-point morning stars, maltase cross, hourglass or snake pattern and geometric patterning. The beads show colors of greasy blue, chalk white, corn yellow, red and black. The age of the piece is unknown. The sheath is accompanied by an old trade knife showing a two piece hard wood grips held together with copper rivets. The blade has some patina and some ground areas. The sheath measures 22"L by approximately 5"W. The knife is 12"L.
