Head right of Philetairos wearing laurel wreath with tie/Athena enthroned left, holding spear and resting her left arm on shield; in field, bunch of grapes, "A" and bow. 16.92 g. Philetairos, the founder of the dynasty, was a commander under Lysimachos and after the death of Seleukos in 280 B.C., established his own kingdom. The kingdom flourished until the death of King Attalos III in 133 B.C., when the capital city, Pergamon, became the capital of the Roman province of Asia.
