Member of the Romanian royal family (born 1921) who ruled the nation as king from 1927 to 1930 and 1940 to 1947, before being forced to abdicate by the Communist Party. Souvenir typescript of a speech given at the Hague, seven pages, 8.25 x 11.75, signed at the top of the first page in black felt tip, “Michael.” King Michael’s speech entitled “Nato’s Reform and Romania’s Place in the Alliance,” given on June 26, 2002. In part: “My hope is that, when we meet next time, the discussion will not be about which countries should be admitted into NATO but, rather, how all of us, a united trans-Atlantic community, can meet the challenges facing us in the future. The result should be a community of free, dependent but inter dependent states at the same time. Our country wants nothing less but to become a full member of this family.” In fine condition, with staple holes to the upper left corner.
