Eccentric king of Bavaria (1864–1886) whose extravagant tastes, generous patronage of the arts, and penchant for exquisite castles (one of which, Neuschwanstein, was the model for Cinderella’s castle at Disneyland), nearly drained the royal treasury before he finally succumbed to insanity. ALS in German, signed “Ludwig,” one page, 5.5 x 8.5, no date. Short letter to an unknown recipient. In full (translated): “Please let through Mollenlicher an extensive report of the letters of Malzens from Arabia. – please arrange everything in that case between the arch bishop carefully and in my will.” In fine condition, with central horizontal and vertical fold, and some light mirroring of ink to bottom portion.
