LS signed “James,” one page, 8.25 x 12.5, May 12, 1666. Manuscript letter to Sir Henry Felton, in the hand of William Coventry, written following an order by King Charles II dated May 3, 1666, and requires Felton "to cause all such Ships & Vessells belonging to the King of Danemarke or his subjects w[hi]ch now are or shall hereafter come into any Ports, Crooks or Places w[i]thin yo[u]r Jurisdiction to be seized & detained there….Except such Ships w[hi]ch shall have a passe under my hand & seale for their safe returne." Signed at the conclusion by James as Duke of York and Albany, in his capacity as Lord High Admiral of England, and countersigned by William Coventry (c.1628-1686), and English statesman and secretary to James, Duke of York. In very good condition, with an old mounting strip along the left edge, minor paper loss along the intersecting folds, and overall staining affecting appearance.
