Appealing World War II-dated partly-printed DS, signed “George R. I.,” one page, 12 x 14.5, January 1, 1943. The king appoints Frank Aubrey Newsam to be an "Additional Knight Commander of the Civil Division of Our…Most Excellent Order of the British Empire." Signed prominently in the upper right corner by the king, and countersigned at the conclusion by his mother, Queen Mary of Teck, "Mary R." Framed and in fine condition, with a slice to the left side where a seal or ribbon may have been once attached. Newsam was a British civil servant notable for his service as Permanent Under-Secretary of State to the Home Office from 1948 to 1957.
