King George VI of England Document Signed "George R.I". Two pages, 8" x 11.75", England, June 11, 1937. Wonderful letter of State written to the President of Bolivia, accepting his congratulations upon his ascension to the throne, and the appointment of Bolivia's ambassador. The King compliments the selection and says he believes it will contribute to effective working relations between the nations. Known as Prince Albert from boyhood, he became the Duke of York in 1920. He came to the throne as George VI in 1936 on the abdication of his elder brother, Edward VIII. His reign was overshadowed by World War II, but he and the Queen remained in London during the blitz to stir morale. He died in 1952 and was followed by his daughter, Elizabeth II. Very fine condition but for minor damage at the very edge on left from removal from a binder.
