Important LS signed “Your Good Friend, George R. I.,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 7.25 x 9.25, royal coat of arms letterhead, March 31, 1916. Official letter of state to "Our Good Friend the President of the Republic of China," in part: "We have received with very great pleasure the reproduction of Our Portrait upon porcelain, which you recently caused to be forwarded to us through Sir John Jordan, our Minister at Peking. We thank you most cordially for this gift which we look upon as a welcome testimony of your friendliness and of the interest which you take in us and our Royal House. Sir John Jordan will have the honour of delivering this letter to you, and we have commanded him to express to you our warm appreciation." Signed at the conclusion by King George V and countersigned by Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Edward Grey. In very fine condition. A superb state letter acknowledging a fine piece of Chinese art, connecting Great Britain—the greatest world power at the time—with the newly created Republic of China in the early 20th century.
